The SAI Radial Piston Hydraulic Motor is of the eccentric crankshaft design with swivelling cylinders. This design of motor enables very high efficiencies to be achieved and gives exceptional performance, even at low speed.

They are available in fixed, dual and variable displacement versions covering a wide range of displacements and powers. A range of displacements within each motor series, together with a range of shaft and distributor options, allows SAI to offer motors that are exactly suited to the application requirements.

Standard fixed displacement motors are available in seven GM Series (GM05 to GM6) which range from 40 cc – 3000 cc/rev, plus the L7 and L9 Series, which are available from 2000 cc to 12000 cc/rev.

High Speed versions of these motors are also available, coded GS and S. A new development is seven-cylinder TF Series offering high power capability in three motor series ranging from 250 cc to 1220 cc/rev.

Dual Displacement motors offer High Torque and High-Speed performance with a more effective and efficient use of the power available. They are available in five-cylinder BD format and seven-cylinder TD format covering a wide range of displacements.

Change of displacement can be made hydraulically or electronically and can be done with the motor stationary or in motion. The ratio of displacements can be 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 or even 1:0. Due to the variation of displacement being by altering the crankshaft stroke the motor retains its high efficiency even in low displacement mode.

Variable Displacement motors are the most efficient method of transmission of hydraulic to mechanical power. They are available in five-cylinder BV format and seven cylinder TV format covering a wide range of displacements, all with electronic control.

The motors can vary displacement from any displacement from minimum to maximum. Due to the variation of displacement being by altering the crankshaft stroke the motor retains its high efficiency even in very low displacements, unlike some other variable motor designs.

SAI’s wheel drives are either direct motor drive, which can be fitted with dynamic drum brakes, compact drive units, which can be fitted with static brakes or separate motor/gearbox units incorporating wheel drive gearboxes. SAI’s range of custom-made gearboxes have been specifically designed to suit and be coupled to the SAI range of Radial Piston Hydraulic Motors. These high efficiency units offer great compactness and flexibility, and the compact wheel drives and gearboxes can be lubricated by the same hydraulic oil that lubricates the hydraulic motor crankcase. By fitting single, dual, or variable motors to these drive units and gearboxes, wheel drives can therefore have fixed, dual or variable effective displacements (motor displacement x gearbox ratio).

The spring applied hydraulic pressure released brakes offer static braking torques from 500 Nm to 8000 Nm and are designed to suit SAI hydraulic motors.

A range of distributors incorporating motion and control valves such as cross line relief valves and over-centre valves are available to be incorporated onto the motors. The distributor is a separate component, with the same basic design fitting all motors from the GM05 to the GM5A.

The standard distributor is the D40 which has 1″ BSP ports, but other variations can be specified which offer SAE ports, higher flow capacity and valve incorporation. It is also possible for SAI (GB) Limited to supply specially designed valve blocks which are bolted directly to the motor distributor.
