Helping Soul Cafe at Christmas

As 2021 draws to an end, there is a new wave of coronavirus sweeping through Newcastle. Custom Fluidpower cancelled its annual Christmas lunch in the Carrington branch due to NSW Health advice and decided to donate the feast to Soul Café, a local charity serving meals free of charge to the highly disadvantaged in and around the Newcastle Region.

Approximately $500 of meat was delivered to the café on the corner of Watt and Hunter Streets in Newcastle because of the cancelled Christmas party. Michelle Thoroughgood and Kim Cleary from the National office took bundle in and said the donation was received by appreciative cooks, volunteers and the homeless of Newcastle.

Soul Cafe’s desire is to do more than just serve a meal. The ultimate mission of Soul Café is to see vulnerable café guests placed on a path towards increased safety, health, and purpose. We aim to lift a group of people that are less fortunate to a greater level of lifestyle within our community through a comprehensive approach that assists them to work through their individual issues and to re-engage back into society.

As such the meals provided are an avenue to link café guests with other necessary services including drug and alcohol and substance abuse programs, accommodation links, Centrelink referral, mental health counselling, refuge referral, haircuts, Legal Aid, Podiatry, and a free doctor’s clinic.

Soul Café is not government funded and relies primarily on financial sponsorship from corporations and individuals making them the perfect recipient of CFP’s cancelled lunch.
